Jay Lake Campground & RV Park - Minden , ON
Campground Review by Arthur Bain of Binghampton New York

1 Star - Does not live up to the description

My family and I spent a 3day weekend, and that was far too long. The washrooms were a disgrace, we had to pay for showers over and above the high cost for the site. The septic bed is leaching and seeping into the lake. The odor is disgusting. There are very few services, The campers are verbally abused by the female host. I witnessed a little girl being stripped of her dignity in front of many campers at the pool and when one woman tried to intervene she was told by the host it was her park and her rules . Not a happy place at all.I would not recommend it to my friends.

Algonquin Provincial Park, Tea Lake - Whitney , ON
Specific Site Review by Cindy Murrins of Brampton,Ont. Canada

5 Star - The closest thing to camping in the woods!!!! Private sites with lots of trees.

Tea lake is quiet and peaceful for the true camping experience. It has very few ammenedities which I like and your surrounded by trees lake and wildlife. It is very small compared to other campgrounds in Algonquin so it dosn't feel comercialized. It feels like your still in the woods not a cookie cutter campground. Sites are all of nice size and privacey with lots of trees. Lot 25 that we stayed at was right by the water with a gentle slope to the lake. It had a rock that gently lead you out to the water. It was a great site and I hope to visit and get this site time after time. The campground is very well maintained and I recommend it to anyone staying at Algonquin. If you do want a shower it is only a short drive to the store camp ground where they have free showers avaliable. Lots of fun a lots to do trails and stores enjoy...

Algonquin Provincial Park, Rock Lake - Whitney , ON
Campground Review by Mark of Waterloo, Ontario

4.5 Star - Waterloo

Rock Lake is two sites - the first one you come to has electricity and is suitable for big trailers/RV's, the second, further down the lake is for tents and smaller trailers. The lake itself is a perfect gateway to interior sites on the south side of Hwy 60, but if you want to stay put there is great fishing, canoeing and swimming, good local trails and some suitable for biking. On our July visit this year we were in the non-hydro area, and it was noisy at times - it seemed that all the kids got on well together (!), and everyone had two dogs, so kind of noisier than expected but the staff were great at intervening. But the loons, the views, the walks - we'll be back.

Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park - Milk River , AB

4.5 Star - Good value for the money!

We stayed at WOS for one week in August 2010. My kids enjoyed the sandy beach, tubing down the (cold)shallow Milk River, playing in the hoodoos, visiting the Interpretive Centre and taking the very informative Indian Rock Art tour. The flush toilets and hot showers are nice, although only two of three showers were working and for a day, only one toilet was working. There is a small store which is very expensive. It was quiet at night. Fewer free programs at the on-site interpretive centre; they are now at the (very posh) interpretive centre. Tickets for the Rock Art tour are pricier; used to be $5, now are $12. Gets expensive for a family. Not alot of privacy in the sites; hot and dry climate = more bushes than trees. Overall, a nice place to camp.

Bonnechere Provincial Park - Bonnechere , ON

4 Star - Overall a good park with lots to offer.

I spent the week of August 23, 2010 at Bonnechere. The park wasn't very busy. It has lots to offer, one of the best beaches that I've seen. Swimming is fantastic for young children as the water gradually deepens. The river campsites are very private. Because you're surrounded by water, August is likley the best month for bugs - there were none. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the comfort station was cleaned twice daily. I would recommend trying Bonnechere.

Norms Walleye Camp - Slave Lake , AB

1.5 Star - Family get together

We met out extended family at norms walleye campground this summer. It is a nice, clean campground located on the river. The only thing I disliked about it was the way we were treated. The owners were not at all caring to us which made the stay very uncomfortable. They lack the skills that are needed to run a business.

3.5 Star - Clean, quiet family park

Stayed here this past weekend for 3 nights. We found the place to be a nice, clean quiet park. Staff were pleasant enough and easily found when needed. Our pull-though site was average for this type of park. RV sites in general are small but adequate with most having a hedgerow to divide and provide a bit of privacy. (Better than most parks like this) Un-serviced sites toward the back of the park are smaller but more private. Some of the un-serviced sites near the front were quite small and crammy with up to 4 sites sharing one open space. Nice for group camping but you would not want one of those sites if you did not know your neighbours. Firewood is reasonably priced (for a campground), chopped to perfection, delivered to your site, and includes a fire starter. A nice break after a long day of hiking or snorkelling in the local National parks. Ponds are full of frogs, the pool is clean albeit a bit small, and there is a great play park area so the kids had a blast. All in all this place is better than average for private parks.

Horseshoe Lake Camp & Cottages - Parry Sound , ON

4.5 Star - Great Place

My family and I have stayed here for a week or more for the last two summers. We use the non-seasonal full serviced sites near the entrance of the park. Sites and entire park are clean and well maintained; and the family that runs the park is always friendly and helpful. It's the type of place where the owners make a point of stopping to speak to you virtually every day to make sure everything is going well...and they even remember your name! One of few places where you can camp and still have access to boat rentals. Boats are small aluminum crafts that are well maintained with reliable motors. Fishing is pretty good once you learn a few good spots. Small beach on site is perfect for the kids. I would reccomend this place to anyone looking for a quiet family camp with access to a nice lake for fishing and recreation.

2.5 Star - Not true camping experience

We decided to go camping and wanted to stay close to the city. We were very unimpressed. The campgrounds are crowded we stayed in the 800 series. We had a bunch of domestic disputes going on all day and all night long. We only saw patrol cars in the middle of the afternoon but at 3 am when the parties were loud and I mean excessively loud no one came not even when the kids from the one party were screaming for their parents. The next night same thing, there was no patrolling. This campground has the potential to be a great park the beach is overcrowded but still nice. The radio free I would definitely recommend to anyone choosing to camp there. The outhouses were smelly with huge spiders to the point where my kids said they are called outhouses because you don't want to go in them. Of all the provincial campgrounds I have been to this is by far the worse. The sites were also low and when it rained had huge puddles everywhere. I have even stayed at Bronte park and wished I had gone there instead. Maybe they could have the OPP patrol the park at night because it was pretty scary.
